More Than
Weight.
When naming it, we searched through dictionaries, filled whiteboards, and went through rounds of voting — only to start over from scratch.
Because every name we came up with described the product itself: heavy, stable, dense, durable. None of them described the relationship between the product and the person using it.
A weight plate means more to home gym users than just weight. A well-designed plate should absorb impact and protect your floor, stay quiet during training, and provide a secure grip for easier loading and unloading.
All these functions point in one direction: keeping the hassles of training away from your living space.
That is what a shield does — it stands between the user and harm.
So we didn’t give this plate a name that simply sounds impressive. We gave it a name that truly represents its purpose:

A shield has three structures: the face takes the blows, the boss reinforces the center, the grip determines control. SHIELD™ is engineered across the same principles.
The Face
The face is the first line of defense. SHIELD™'s face is 100% virgin rubber — not shredded, re-melted recycled tire compound that stinks and cracks.
The Core
Behind the face is the core. SHIELD™'s core is cast iron — roughly 6× denser than rubber.
The outer virgin rubber layer absorbs impact, reduces noise, and protects your floor. The inner cast iron core provides structural support, resists deformation, and protects your equipment.
The Boss
SHIELD™'s boss is a precision stainless steel bushing with a standard 2-inch Olympic bore.
The tolerance is tightened to the point where the plate slides on effortlessly and locks without a hint of movement. A rough cast-iron bore scrapes your barbell and rattles. Precision steel doesn't.
The Grip
The grip determines how you wield it.
SHIELD™'s dual M-shaped cutout creates an open grip space designed as a handle. Grab it from any angle. The outer rubber rim also features a beveled edge, making the plate easier to pick up even when lying flat on the floor.
The Crest.
Every shield has a crest. We call the dual M cutout "the Crest." It casts the MIKOLO identity into the product structure itself.
Cast Into the Design
The Crest isn't a design element added later. It is integrated into the main structure of the plate from the mold stage.
Because a real crest isn't applied — it's cast in.
The Double M
The dual M-shaped opening is a combination of MIKOLO's brand identity, SHIELD™'s protection philosophy, and purposeful engineering.
The open structure supports fast one-hand carrying and multi-angle grip, while enabling movements like Plate Raise, Goblet Squat, and Russian Twist.
